Your laptop ships with a Microcad-provided offline account. If you choose to go beyond that and sign in with a Microsoft account tied to your email, be aware: Windows may automatically enable device encryption (BitLocker) on your storage drive as a security feature under Microsoft's End User License Agreement (EULA) terms.

Use a Microsoft account, not a local password

If you add a password to your device, make sure it's tied to an actual Microsoft account rather than a local-only sign-in. This is what lets you retrieve your BitLocker recovery key later if your device ever asks for one — recovery keys are normally retrieved through that same Microsoft account.

Recovering your BitLocker key

If you lose access to your Microsoft account

If access to the Microsoft account used is lost, recovering your computer's files and programs can be difficult — especially if a warranty repair becomes necessary. A repair in this situation typically requires a full wipe and reinstall of the operating system, meaning all files and documents will be lost. Microcad is not responsible for any data loss resulting from this.
